Made in Cambodia, for hotels in Cambodia

Many booking engines were built for other markets, with Khmer added later, if at all. We thought hotels here deserved better, so we planned OtelCloud around the way they really take bookings.

OtelCloud is made by Angkor Design, a team in Cambodia that builds software for businesses here. Planning began in February 2022, during the Covid time.

Phase 1 is the whole front of a hotel in one system: a booking engine in Khmer and English, a widget for the hotel's own website, a PMS back office for the front desk, an owner portal, and this website.

We set every hotel up ourselves and train its staff, because a system is only as good as the first week of using it.

What we believe

Our vision

A hotel in Cambodia should take bookings in Khmer and in riel, on its own website.

Not on a system built for another country. Direct bookings should be as easy for a small guesthouse as for a large resort.

Why we built OtelCloud

Hotel technology that speaks the guest's language

Hotels in Cambodia sell to guests who speak Khmer and count in dollars and riel. Many of the booking engines hotels here use were built elsewhere, for other markets.

OtelCloud is Khmer-first: a direct booking engine on each hotel's own website, and a PMS for the team at the front desk, in one system.

Before we build anything, we ask one question: will this help the person at the front desk work faster and make fewer mistakes?

    The booking engine and the PMS work in Khmer and in English. Khmer was never added on later.

  • Dollars and riel together

    Prices show in riel beside the dollar, for guests and for staff.

  • Every hotel's data stays apart

    Each hotel's bookings and guests are kept apart from every other hotel's, by the database itself.

  • Help from people here

    No self sign-up: a person from our team sets up your hotel and trains your staff.

Built on

The technology underneath

Plain, proven parts, chosen so a hotel's system stays steady on an ordinary day and on a busy one.

  • PostgreSQL The database behind every booking, room and folio. Each hotel's rows are fenced off by row-level security.
  • TypeScript Strict TypeScript from the API to the screen, so the compiler finds a mistake before a guest does.
  • Node.js and Fastify The API that serves the booking engine, the PMS and the portals.
  • React The booking engine, the PMS and the portals open in a browser, on a phone, a tablet or a desktop.
  • Money in whole numbers Dollars and riel are kept as whole cents and riel, never as decimals, so totals add up to the cent.
  • Tests with every feature No feature ships without its tests, and the whole suite runs before anything is called done.
  • Plain pages for this site This website is plain HTML with a small stylesheet and a little script, and no framework.
